Sub Tuum Praesidium
(This prayer is the earliest known Marian prayer. The ancient prayer was found on an ancient Egyptian papyrus dating back to around the year 250, and it is addressed to “Theotokos.” The prayer was part of the Coptic Vespers liturgy during the Christmas season. Several centuries later, the prayer was used as the basis of a Latin prayer, Sub Tuum Praesidium, and it would also form the root of the Memorare.)
We fly to thy patronage,
O holy Mother of God;
despise not our petitions in our necessities,
but deliver us always from all dangers,
O glorious and blessed Virgin.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help,
or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence
I fly unto thee,
